Your questions, answered.
Where and when can I fly?
Only during the period and in areas allowed by the applicable government and district notification. Lahore News reported on 20 October that Punjab’s cabinet approved 12–14 March 2027, replacing the earlier January–February schedule. We have not independently authenticated the signed revised operational notification. Do not assume a public park, airport-adjacent area or private roof is permitted.
Which strings and equipment are prohibited?
Lahore’s notice prohibits chemical, metallic and dangerous sharp string, charkhis, aerial firing and fireworks. The broader published framework also prohibits nylon. Buy only from currently authorised sellers during permitted sales; follow current cotton-pinna specifications.
What does a rooftop need?
A sound structure, parapets at least 3.5 feet high, repaired stairs, a clean surface, clear access and safe occupancy. Avoid nearby electrical lines and flammable materials. Running, jumping, leaning over edges and aggressive kite-catching are prohibited. Owners and organisers can be held responsible.
Can children take part?
The December 2025 ordinance reporting states that under-18s are barred from kite flying. The 2027 rooftop guidelines also require continuous adult supervision of children and protection from roof edges. Verify the latest applicable age rule; supervising a child does not by itself authorise them to fly.
What about music, weather and motorcycles?
Published rooftop guidelines prohibit loud DJs and disruptive noise and stop flying during strong winds, rain, storms or poor visibility. Motorcycle safety rods were required in 2026, and 2027 preparation plans include free installation. Recheck the final traffic and transport notices.
Can I order kites by courier?
Lahore’s September 2026 notice prohibits courier and transport-service delivery of kite materials and warns of action against illegal incoming supplies. A seller’s online offer is not proof of lawful delivery. Read the current transport notification.
What penalties have been reported?
September reporting of the Home Department’s framework describes up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine up to Rs2 million for flying outside the permitted period, and up to seven years and Rs5 million for unauthorised manufacture, transport or sale. The precise charge and penalty depend on the applicable law and facts.
Who should I contact in an emergency?
Call Rescue 1122 for an emergency or police 15 for immediate danger or illegal activity. Lahore’s September notice lists 0307-0002345 as the DC control room for illegal supplies. Never try to retrieve a kite from power lines.
